This week was interesting. Went out and networked/scouted with/for bands. I've already met so many people in the past month that I have doubled my radio show's fanbase. We've been hitting the grindstone at every moment of every day. School, work, internship, homework...repeat. I'm kind of enjoying it :) Feeling productive is something that charges my motivation and I feel pretty motivated lately. I'm learning all kinds of things about the X3 Pod Pro and getting to see it's magic happen. The amount of things you can do with that single piece of equipment is substantial.
Other than that I have spent a couple hours watching Jonathon record and edit tracks onto Sonar. I'm really enjoying this internship and I definitely got into Devil's Rope Studios at the right time. This Fall is going to be insane for business and I will be spending tons of time editing and mixing. Stoked!

"A person who trusts no one can't be trusted."
According to any teacher of broadcasting, networking is key in being successful in the business. This also happens to be the opinion of my boss. The past week has been filled with meeting with bands and artists managed by Devil's Rope Studios. There have been cookouts, jam sessions and practice spots but more importantly, I'm getting hands-on experience with how the business really works. You have to build relationships with your clients in order to work in such an intimate setting with them. When a musician composes a song it's like a gateway into their soul. And when they choose to bring you into their world, they have to be able to trust you. So it's all part of the job.
As far as editing software, I have been learning how to use Sonar. The concepts are industry standard so they aren't too terrible to learn. Also, I'll be learning how to use ProTools in the next week or two. For that, I can't wait.

Reality above expectations.
For most students going into their internship, they expect just to get coffee for people and do paperwork. But on a rare occasion, that isn't the case. I have experienced that rarity.
My first day was pretty interesting. I was introduced to signal chains and techniques on how to daisy chain guitar pedals for the best sound. That was helpful because I have been around bands for years and never knew the precise way to do so. Another great thing that I've had the privilege of doing this first week was going out and scouting for talent. I would love an A&R position at a record label so this was right up my alley. I met a couple legitimate musicians and even managed to recruit one of them to play on my radio show sometime this semester. That equals success in my book.
Overall, my first week was well spent learning and getting to know my coworkers. Being surrounded by musicians is something that I've missed since I lived back home and the fact that I'm using it to further my career now is exciting in a whole new way. Here's to hoping next week will be just as eventful.
